Robert Masters Seely Sr.

ROYAL OAK Robert Masters Seely Sr. died Friday, Dec. 21, 2007. He was 95.

He was born on March 3, 1912, in Beach Haven, Pa., the son of the late Edward and Beulah Masters Seely. After graduating in 1929 from Berwick High School, he attended Penn State University in College Park, Pa., graduating in 1933 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He then went to work for General Steel Industries as a mechanical engineer, retiring from the company 43 years later as chief engineer. He had a deferment from military service during World War II for his work in the manufacture of military equipment.

He was a resident of Swarthmore, Pa., during the time General Steel Industries was located in Eddystone, Pa. In 1964, he moved to Florissant, Mo., where he lived for 30 years, retiring from General Steel Industries in 1977. He and his wife moved to Royal Oak in 1994 and lived on Irish Creek next door to his son Robert, where he resided until his death.

He was a member of the Royal Oak Methodist Church and the Izaak Walton League. He was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, playing bridge and working crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Seely; three children, Susan Greiner and her husband Arthur, Robert Seely Jr. and his wife Jean Johnson, and John Seely and his wife Sumiko Yokozeki; four grandchildren, Jennifer Greiner, Patricia Greiner, Kyra Seely, and Nisha Seely and her husband Carl Christiansen; and two great-grandchildren, David Greiner and Keir Seely.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Idlewild Avenue, Easton, MD 21601.
