Aquisition Policy

All items to be included in the Seelye Research Center (SRC) will be selected with the following questions in mind:

  • How does the item further knowledge of the Seeley family?
  • Does it add to information the SRC already has, or is it new information?
  • Does it highlight a special individual within the extended Seeley family?
  • Is it of overall historical value to the furthering of genealogical knowledge?
  • What is the condition of the item?
  • Will it require extra effort to repair or preserve the item for inclusion in the SRC?
  • Could it be a detriment to the rest of the collection?
  • Is there a history attached to the item?
  • Does the item include its provenance?

General Rules of Acceptance

  • Items accepted into the SRC must have a connection to the Seeley name (any spelling).
  • Items should be in good condition with a minimal amount of damage.
  • Large collections must be approved by the SGS board before acquisition by the SRC.
  • Digital items may be accepted but must be in a pre-approved format.
  • All items accepted into the SRC will become the property of the SRC and the SGS.
  • Any protests regarding the inclusion of an item into the SRC will be decided upon by the SGS Board.

Submitting Materials to the SRC

There are two ways to submit materials to be considered for the Seelye Research Center archives depending on the type of materials they are.

Physical Materials

If you have physical materials to contribute:

  1. Download and fill out a hard-copy of the SRC Materials Submission Form (PDF) fully explaining what you have.
  2. Send the printed form with your materials by mail to the address on the form.

Electronic Materials

If you have electronic materials to contribute:

  1. Fill out the SRC Materials Submission Form below.
  2. Attach your electonic files.
  3. Click the Submit Materials Button.

In either case (physical or electronic), submit as much information about the materials as possible.  If known, identify your ancestor’s relationship to the Seventh-Generation name in the Seventh Generation Families Publication of the Seeley Genealogical Society.  If the submittal pertains to an item already on file, list that SRC document’s identification number.  If you are submitting a number of documents, provide an index or list of the documents.

Note:  Please contact the SGS President and/or SRC Librarian if you have a donation involving items other than data or a large quantity of documents (i.e., more than a carton).

The SRC Librarian will make the final determination whether an item is accepted into the collection or not.

Do You Have File(s) to Upload?
Important: If uploading more than one file by drag and drop or by clicking on the "Upload a file" link, select all files at once. If you upload one file at at time it will replace the file before it rather than add the new file. It's weird, I know.
Genealogy is an ongoing journey, full of unexpected discoveries. The information here reflects our best knowledge at the moment, but it may have gaps or the occasional error. And, it will change as we learn more.
