Robert E. Seely Sr.

Robert E. Seely Sr., 84, of the Winslow House Care Center, Marion, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, in Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Memorial services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Eileene Sauer of the Robins Church of the Brethren will officiate. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Lois, are two children, Robert E. Seely Jr. of Cedar Rapids, and Carol Watakoski (Wayne) of New Stanton, Pa.; a brother, Lloyd Johnson of Chicago; two sisters, Donna Bonnell and Lynn Wilson, both of Fort Dodge; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Robert was born May 19, 1923, in Creston, the son of Eugene and Mabel Hartman Seely. He married Lois Smith on Oct. 31, 1944, in Iowa City. Robert was a clerk in the U.S. Post Office for 23 years, retiring in 1984. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1941 until 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Hanford Post No. 5 and the VFW Post No. 788.
