James G. Sealy
SEALY – James G., age 87, of Westwood, NJ, born in Manhattan, NY, May 29, 1921 died on Monday, September 8, 2008 in Ridgewood, NJ. Brother of the late John R. Sealy and Robert G. Sealy. Beloved uncle of Kathleen D. Light and her husband Bruce, John R. Sealy and his wife Vicki, Diane F. Ragone and her husband Gary, and Robert J. Sealy. Loving great-uncle of Justin and Tyler.
Following graduation from Westwood High School in 1939, studied Chemical Engineering at Cooper Union Institute of Technology in New York. Entered the U.S. Army in August 1942, and following studies at Pennsylvania State College in the Army Specialized Training Program, was assigned to the Manhattan Project as Technical Supervisor of Process Operations at K-25, the top secret uranium isotope separation plant at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Following discharge from service at war’s end, attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute, receiving a degree in Industrial Engineering in 1948.
Joined Ebasco Services in New York as Utilities Safety Consultant and Health Physicist serving client electric and gas utility companies in this country and Latin America. During this period was also Technical Advisor to the Inter-American Safety Council. Subsequently became Director of the Business and Industry Division of Greater New York Safety Council and worked with many building trades involved in the construction of the World Trade Center.
Was elected to the Westwood Borough Council in 1955 and served as Councilman and mayor a total of 14 years, followed by 20 years as the town’s Tax Assessor. Was Executive Secretary and Treasurer of the Pascack Valley Mayors’ Association since 1968 and a trustee of the Pascack Historical Society for many years. He was Associate of Hose Company Two of the Westwood Fire Department since 1958.
Funeral from Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Friday at 9 AM. Funeral Liturgy at Church of St. Andrew, Westwood, NJ at 10 AM. Interment, Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ. The family will receive their friends on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
