Helen Louise Seely

Helen Seely died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 22, 2013, at Good Samaritan Village of causes related to age. She was 101.

Helen was born to George and Ione Crider on Aug. 20, 1912, in Indianapolis. At the age of 6, her family moved to Bremerton, Wash., where her father worked as a machinist for the Bremerton Navy Ship Yard.

She graduated from Washington State University (formerly Washington State College) in 1934 with a degree in home economics.

She married Clarence I. Seely on July 6, 1935, in Bremerton. They had two sons, Richard and Robert, nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Helen was active in Camp Fire Girls as a child and later was a Cub Scout leader. She was a longtime member of Eastern Star and held an honorary life membership. She also worked in the registrar’s office at the University of Idaho for a time. She played the piano from the age of 6 and later played the organ for Eastern Star and Good Samaritan Village.

Throughout her life, Helen enjoyed traveling and fishing. Her favorite destinations included Australia and New Zealand, as well as a cruise through the Panama Canal. She and Clarence owned a home on Coeur d’Alene Lake for 27 years, which they both enjoyed, and loved sharing it with family and friends. They moved to Good Samaritan Village in 1997.

Later in life, Helen took pleasure in group activities, playing the organ, strolls in the garden and daily devotions at Good Samaritan Village.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; son Robert; and two grandchildren, Diane and Robert Jr.

A private family memorial service will be held. The family suggests memorials go to Good Samaritan Village.
