Maj. Edward Paul Seeley

Maj. Edward P Seeley, Ret., age 77, passed away in Columbus, Georgia on January 10, 2011.

Born February 13, 1933 in Waukesha, Wisconsin and grew up in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin with parents Harry and Margaret Seeley. Ed served in the U.S. Army until February 1993, attaining the rank of Major. On July 13, 1957, Ed married Peggy Farrar at her parent’s home in the Piney Grove community of Harris Co, Georgia.

Ed lived in Fortson, Georgia and, after retirement from the Army, worked as manager and district manager for the local Wendy’s franchise, managed the Davis Inn in Pine Mt. Georgia and served as Captain of the Antioch Volunteer Fire Department in Harris Co. Georgia.

Ed was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, The Boy Scouts of America, and the Coalition of Historical Trekkers. Ed will be especially remembered for being an educator, instructor and mentor. He believed in utilizing every opportunity to educate students, friends, family, Boy Scouts and anyone else who was willing to listen to all he had to offer.

Survivors include his siblings William Seeley, Robert Seeley, Betty Frazier and Don Seeley. Ed is also survived by his wife Peggy, son and daughter-in-law Keith and Julie, daughter and grandchildren Karen, Kayleigh and Matthew, and son and daughter-in-law Craig and Tori.

Services will be held at 2:00p.m., Saturday January 15, 2011 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, Georgia, 31907, phone 706-563-2372. Burial and grave side service will be next door at Park Hill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd., Columbus, Georgia, phone 706-561-6360. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend visitation at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary on Friday, January 14th between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
