APPEARANCE OF NEW EPIDEMIC CAUSES A DEATH
Child of Five One of First Victims to Succumb to Strange Disease
Bronchial pneumonia, following a severe attack of congestion of the bowels, caused the death yesterday of Edna Mary, the five-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Seely, of 246 Eight street, and the mother lies in a critical condition with the same malady.
Mr. Seely, the father, was seriously ill for about ten hours, but quickly recovered, owing to his strong vitality.
The three physicians called on the case pronounced it one of the many cases, now causing so much alarm throughout the country, the malady proving more dangerous to children than to older people, owing to the intense suffering which takes a strong constitution to withstand its terrible effects.
Another member of Mr. Seeley’s family, a son, aged eight years old has not been affected. Mrs. Seely’s condition today is much more encouraging.
