Lived in Litchfield Co. until 1795 when they moved to Tioga Co., PA. He was a farmer and pioneer. He was a Quaker, affiliated with the Quaker Church in Knoxville, PA.

Was one of 5 brothers who served in the Revolutionary War. Enlisted in Apr or May 1775 when he was 19 and served 6 enlistments. During the War was a recruit in Elisha Sheldon’s Dragoons, an aide of Washington’s staff and was encamped at Valley Forge.
