Freak accident kills man

NEWCASTLE – Funeral services for Osage rancher David Carl Seeley, 50, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church here.

The Rev. Richard Plants will officiate, and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Newcastle.

Seeley died Wednesday at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo. as the result of a freak accident.  He died after he swallowed horseshoe nails while shoeing a horse, a funeral home spokesman said.

He was alone at the time of the mishap, the report said.

He was born March 19, 1925 at Roset.  He was raised in the Sundance area and attended schools there.

Seeley married Una George at Hardin, Mont. on June 1, 1947.  They resided in the Sundance area on a ranch until 1959, when they acquired the Double Spear Ranch at Osage.

The ranch was his home at the time of the fatal accident.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Vernon C. of Osage, and Lenard D. of Arvada, Wyo.; his mother, Hazel Seeley of Sundance; two brothers, Tommy of Sundance and Ted of Newcastle; and three sisters, Donna Blackburn of Centerville, Utah, and Arlene Tenke and Darlene Spiedel, both of Sundance.

A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.
