Captain The Right Honourable David Peter Seely is the 4th Baron Mottistone.
He is the eldest son of John Edward Bernard Seely, 1st Baron Mottistone from his 2nd marriage. He is a godson of Winston Churchill and HRH The late Duke of Windsor. He was the Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight from 1985-1995 and the last Governor of the Isle of Wight from 1992-1995, where the Seely family have played a prominent role since the 1850’s. He was born on 16th December 1920. He was the Chairman of the Bureau of Applied Sciences 1987–91 and was made an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy by the University of Bournemouth in 1993, and a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1984. He is a member of The Royal Yacht Squadron.
