Samuel was a private, Wayne Co., PA, under Col. William Cook and Capt Patterson.  Term 3 years.  Also in 2nd New Jersey Regiment, Col William Maxwell.  Marched against Quebec.  Retreated to Ticonderoga where he remained for his term of enlistment.  Enlisted under Capt Patterson in 12th PA.  Was in battles of Amboy, Ash Swamp, Methuen, Short Hills and Brandywine.
