Eli Seely was elected Captain of the Militia of Town of Bedford, NY. Commission issued 13 Sep 1775. His sons, Eli Jr. and Thaddeus served in their father’s company.

Eli was selected as Captain of the Bedford Western District in the Southern Battalion of Westchester County, New York. He enlisted as a private in Captain Jacob Vermilyea’s Company in 1778. He later served as a corporal in Captain Marcus Moseman’s Company, which was part of Colonel Thomas Thomas’s Regiment of the New York Militia. He received a pension based on a claim executed in 1832. Eli Seeley passed away in Afton, New York. He was the father of two sons: Isaac (1787-1857) and Eli (1804-1891).
