Hyrum Wightman Seeley, 93, of Ashton, died Aug. 24, 2004, at his home of natural causes incident to age. He was born Feb. 13, 1911, on the family homestead north of Ashton, to Alvin Wellington Seeley and Martha Wightman Seeley. When he was 10 his mother died and his father ultimately married Minnie Barrickman Garver, whose husband had also died. He graduated from Ashton High School in 1928, where he was active in student government and debate. He attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, for a short time before returning to Ashton to farm. On Dec. 22, 1932, he married Mildred Irene Garver at the Madison County Courthouse in Rexburg. He worked his entire life on the original family homestead north of Ashton. He acquired more land as time went by and eventually sold the farm to his sons when he retired in 1972 and moved to Ashton. The farm he was raised on was the center of his life, as he loved to travel there. And later in life, he always asked questions about what was going on. He was a member of the LDS Church. While he was able, he enjoyed reading and studying religious scriptures and always kept up on worldly affairs. He enjoyed his family, especially his wife, Mildred, who gave him wonderful and needed care. He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of the family home; Delma (Clyde) White, Ernest R., Alvin Dick (Jan), of Ashton, Arnold L. (Judy) of Blackfoot, Mildred Grieve of Thermopolis, Wyo., who was a constant caregiver to her dad and his devoted wife over the past few years. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services conducted Thursday, August 26, 2004 at the Ashton LDS Stake Center by Bishop Mike Davidson. Burial with be in the Pineview Cemetery under the direction of the Baxter Funeral Home.
