Mrs. Helen E. Seeley Dies at Jersey Shore

JERSEY SHORE – Mrs. Helen E. Seeley, 69, one of the oldest residents of Jersey Shore died Thursday morning March 3, 1944, at 7 o’clock at her home, 301 South Main Street. Death resulted from complications which followed a fall on Nov. 26 last, when she suffered a fractured hip.

She was the former Helen E. Thomas, and was born at Larry’s Creek, Oct. 1, 1854. She married Charles B. Seeley in 1876, and moved to the borough, where she has since resided. She was very active in literary, musical and church circles. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and all of its women’s organizations. She had been a teacher in the Primary Department of the Sunday School more than 50 years, a service which was recognized by the State Sabbath School Association in the bestowing of a medal.

Mr. Seeley, a former publisher, died in 1927. Survivors include a son, Dr. C.B. Seeley, Williamsport; two daughters, Mrs. Scurry Terrell, El Paso, Tex.; and Mrs. John F. Schneider, Cambridge, Md.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be held at the funeral home, 123 North Main Street at 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon …..[illegible] Willard, Jr., will officiate, assisted by the Rev. John F. Stamm, Philipsburg, former pastor of the First Methodist Church here. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, this evening from 7 to 9 o’clock.
