Harry Silas Seeley

(1913- 2004)

Harry Silas Seeley, 90, of Talbot Park, passed away Feb. 7, 2004 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mr. Seeley was born in Norfolk on May 25, 1913. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur W. and Florence S. Seeley, brother Arthur W. Seeley Jr., and sister Margaret S. Miller. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ellen G. Seeley; two sisters, Bessie Hogshire and Jessie Segelin; sister-in-law, Grace G. Smith; brother-in-law, Archie F. Seay and his wife, Jo-Anne; nieces Ellen Anne S. Young, Dorothy Anne Cook; Brenda Wilson, Carolyn Dyke, Connie Garvis, Edna Hester; nephews, Theodore R. Smith Jr., Todd F. Seay, Philip Miller, Bill Donison, Lee Donison, Milton Hogshire; and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Mr. Seeley served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He and his wife Ellen enjoyed serving the floral needs of generations of families for 55 years while operating A.W. Seeley & Sons Florist. Harry was an active member of the Norfolk Cosmopolitan Club since 1971. He served Epworth United Methodist Church as a board member and faithful member of the congregation for the past 66 years. He was truly a gift from God to his wife, family and friends. He was a strong, good natured and honest man. Harry’s love, compassion and unselfish generosity set an example for us to follow. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church by the Rev. Diane Bailey. The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Home, Colonial Ave. Chapel, Norfolk, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
