George R. Seeley, Jr. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of George R. Seeley, Jr., age 82 of Delanson, NY on January 28, 2024. George was born in Gloversville, NY on May 6, 1941 and was predeceased by his parents George Sr. and Mary Seeley as well as an infant brother, Robert. George is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sally; as well as his children: George R. Seeley, III (Dawn) of Maidens, VA and Kerry (Dan) Ike of Horseheads, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kennedy (Reid) Hues, Nicholas and Matthew Seeley and Danielle and Holton Ike. George is also survived by his sister Carol Winning of Rotterdam, many nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

George graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 1961. He worked for 34 years for the DEC in their fisheries department. He was the manager of the Johnstown Fish Hatchery and later Rome Fish Hatchery. From 1981 until his retirement in 1996 he served as the superintendent of fish culture in charge of all New York State’s fish hatcheries.
George was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and spend time at his family camp in Stratford, NY. George loved a good project and was called upon by friends, neighbors, and family to construct and fix anything. He was always at the ready with a toolbox in his truck, a hat on his head, and a plan for his next adventure. He was a dedicated family man who enjoyed researching genealogy and sharing pictures, stories and documents with relatives.

Per George’s wishes there will be no services or calling hours. A celebration of life will occur this summer at the family camp in Stratford, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George’s memory to: Duanesburg Ambulance PO Box 130 Delanson, NY 12053 or www.duanesburgambulance.org. The family wishes to thank the first responders from the ambulance corps and the sheriff’s department.
