m. before 1780, Katherine Brinker (b about 1752 in Northampton Co., PA). Daughter of Jacob and Susanna Hinkle Brinker of Franklin, Westmoreland Co., PA.
Resided in Westmoreland Co., PA and after the Revolutionary War lived in IL, KY, NC and MO.
John Nichols enlisted early in Dec 1776 in Capt Alexander Patterson’s Company in the 12th Pennsylvania Regiment. On 3 Feb 1777, he was commissioned as Ensign. He was in the Battles of Ash Swamp, Bunker Hill, Germantown, Brandywine and Short Hills. He served until 20 Aug 1777 when he resigned because of ill health. His discharge was signed by George Washington.
