Charles Seeley Dies at His Home Yesterday

Charles Jonathan Seeley, the last of his generation, died early yesterday morning at his home on High street.  Mr. Seeley although in poor health had only been confined to the bed for the past four weeks.

Mr. Seeley was born in Middlebury March 30, 1843, and was the son of John and Delia (Goodrich) Seeley.  He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Frances Champlin, who died several years ago.  His second wife was Miss Ellen Piper, who survives him with two daughters, Miss Delia Seeley of Rutland and Mrs. Ray L. Fisher of Ann Arbor, Mich., and one son, Edward Seeley of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.  There were three children by the first marriage two of whom survive, John F. Seeley and Mrs. H.R. Walkup both of Worcester, Mass., and he is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Seeley, in his younger days was a prominent farmer, moving to this village many years ago where he gained many friends.  He was tax collector and constable for 20 years, resigning sometime ago on account of ill health.

The funeral will be held from his late home on High street at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon.  Burial will be in the Seeley district.
