Donald Brownlee Seeley

Granite Falls, Minn. – Memorial services for Donald Brownlee Seeley, 74, who died Aug. 25 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis, were held Aug. 30 in Granite Falls.

Seeley was born Jan. 13, 1910, to Frank and Minnie Seeley at Elgin, Neb.  He attended Newell (S.D.) High School and vocational school at Wapheton, N.D., in 1929 and 1930.

He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and was discharged in 1946 as a 1st Lieutenant in the Air Force.  He served overseas in World War II, and was among the first troops taken to England from California on the Queen Mary.

Seeley married Lavina Nelson in 1942.  After her death, he married Anne Antonson in 1970.

He lived in South Dakota until 25 years ago, then moved to Granite Falls.  He retired in 1976 from Granite Falls.  He retired in 1976 from a Granite Falls manufacturing company specializing in government defense contracts.

Seeley had a lifetime interest in hunting and trapshooting and was known for giving wild game to needy families.

Survivors include his wife, Anne; one son, Michael, of Granite Falls; five step-children; two sisters, Maxine Bovee, Belle Fourche, and Alice Tennis, Sturgis; two granddaughters, Lisa and Melissa; and 25 step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
