David Eugene “Gene” Seely

David Eugene “Gene” Seely, 84, of Pittsburg, died at 9:37 a.m., Monday, November 27, 2006, at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 23, 1922, in rural Crawford County, to David and Reona Hardister Seely. He attended Pittsburg schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1940.

Mr. Seely served in the United States Navy during World War II.

On March 8, 1944, he married Helen B. Schnieder at Pittsburg. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2006.

He was an electrician and worked for several electrical companies, including AA Electric. He later worked with his son at Mike’s New and Used.

Membership was held in the Grace United Methodist Church; Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post No. 64 for over 50 years; and the Pittsburg Masonic Lodge No. 187 for over 50 years.

Survivors include a son, David “Mike” Seely of Pittsburg; two brothers, Harold Seely of rural Weir, KS, and Kenneth Seely of Grove, OK; two grandchildren, Kevin Verdugo of Hays, KS, and Kristie Crossland of Joplin, MO; and a great-grandson, Kaleb Verdugo.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanne M. Verdugo.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 30) at the Brenner Mortuary with Rev. Don Foster officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery, where the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post No. 64 will provide flag folding rites. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to sign the register at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the Grace United Methodist Church, which may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg.
