VERNON G. SEELY, 84

HOPKINTON – Vernon G. Seely, 84, of Hopkinton, died Thursday at home after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Eloise M. (Edwards) Seely; three sons, including Dennis Seely of Uxbridge; three daughters, including Tamara Dafiotis of Douglas; a sister; 38 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A son died in February. He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asian-Pacific theater. His nicknames were “Bub” and “Roy.”

Mr. Seely was a streetcar operator for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and its predecessor, the Metropolitan Transit Authority, for 34 years.

He was a longtime active Mason.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Callanan-Cronin Funeral Home, 34 Church St. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Health & Hospice, PO Box 578, Laconia, NH 03247.
