Survivors include her husband of 64 years R.C. Sealy; daughters, Lindrea Sealy and Virginia Sealy; four grandchildren, Dr. Juliette Owens of Austin, Texas, Celia Howes J.D. of Portland, Oregon, Hannah Caplan and Grant Caplan of Lafayette; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin and Benjamin Owens, and Louisa Andersen. She is preceded in death by her parents and one son, Richard Timothy Sealy.
Sybil Beaullieu Sealy was born June 5, 1927 in Jeanerette, LA, the second of four children of Elton J. and Loretta Shaw Beaullieu. She attended Jeanerette High School and SLI (Now UL-L) in Lafayette, and married the love of her life R.C. Sealy in 1946 following the end of WWII. They had three children. Sybil was a member of the Entre Nous Club of Jeanerette, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lafayette, and a member of the choir at St. Mary’s. She was a member of the Krewe of Gabriel and La Fonda Sewing Club in Lafayette, and twice served as president of L’Avenir Womens Club. Sybil enjoyed serving as a room mother for her children in Lafayette schools, and as a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Leader at Fatima and Mt. Carmel schools. She volunteered at the original St. Joseph Diner in Lafayette. Sybil enjoyed her family, cooking, reading, genealogy, travel, bridge, art, painting, music, dancing and life in general. She attended the Greenbriar Hotel cooking school in West Virginia to improve her skills, and relished taking painting classes for over 19 years. Her joy in living and faith in humanity will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She gave generously to family and friends of her love and affection, and believed in setting an example of simple refinement and good taste. She had the rare gift of common sense and used it with love. Her laughter was something to be remembered by all who knew her well. She appreciated the simple things, including the beauty of nature, especially the moon and stars. We all look forward to meeting her again where she promised to be waiting for us with Richard Timothy, her only son, by her side.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 from 9:00 AM until time of service.
