Verna Gerene (Smithey) Sealy, 89, of Washington Township, formerly of New Kensington, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016, in her home. Born Sept. 5, 1926, in Pine Bluff, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Estelle Smithey. Verna lived in Washington Township for the last 35 years. She was employed as a hostess at Kings Family Restaurant in Delmont for 10 years, from where she retired. She was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of New Kensington. Verna enjoyed feeding wildlife, especially deer and birds. She loved her cats. Verna was a faithful volunteer at West Haven Manor in Washington Township for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sealy; daughter, Lorrie Smith; and brothers, Archie and Lance Smithey. Verna is survived by her daughter, Sharon Rockwell; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many loving friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, in the First Baptist Church (Upper Burrell), 3740 Seventh St. Road, New Kensington, PA 15068, with Pastor Dave Hefferan officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo.
