Edna May Seeley

1926 – 2019

Mason – Edna May Seeley, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2019. Born in Lansing, Michigan on January 28, 1926 to R.J. and Jennie Hamlin, her early childhood years were spent in Lansing and Holt before the family settled in Mason, Michigan. There she met her husband, Charles F. Seeley, Jr., in high school and graduated with the Class of ’44. To her great dismay, Edna’s subsequent studies at Alma College were abruptly terminated during her freshman year due to complications from back surgery.

Prior to marrying Chuck in 1949, Edna honed her secretarial skills while working at Mason High School, the Ingham County Courthouse, and the Lansing School District. Years later she resumed secretarial work, primarily at Michigan State University. Aside from a few years in Greenville, North Carolina, Edna and Chuck spent their life in Michigan (Mancelona, Capac, East Lansing, Lansing). Prior to his passing in 2018, they thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful retirement community at Great Lakes Christian Homes in Holt.

A consummate homemaker, in the original sense of the word, and an artist at heart, Edna’s extraordinary creative and aesthetic sensibilities were expressed through her aptitude for pottery, a host of needle arts, and exquisite silversmithing. She took great pleasure in the achievements of her grandsons and extended family members, collecting antiques, researching family genealogy, golfing, and singing in her church choir and Sweet Adelines. We will particularly miss her delight and ability in word and card games.

The last of her siblings to part company with us, Edna is survived by her son, Michael; daughter, Patricia (Richard) Aslin; grandsons, Chris (Rachel Goldwasser) and Tim Aslin; great grandchildren, Chana and Henry; sister-in-law Elizabeth Robinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends our deepest gratitude to those loving family members and friends who visited Edna at Grandhaven Living Center of Lansing where she resided for the past year, their staff, and the remarkable individuals at Elara Caring who eased Edna through her final days.

The date for a memorial service is yet to be determined. Memorial contributions in her honor should be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
