Dorrance Austin Seeley

June 19, 1922 ~ November 19, 2020 (age 98)

Dorrance Austin Seeley was born on June 19, 1922, to Mark and Lulu (Patton) Seeley in Magnolia, Iowa. He grew up in Magnolia and graduated in the class of 1940. In 1944, Dorrance joined the United States Navy. He did his naval training in San Diego before being sent to the Philippines for two years. After his honorable discharge, Dorrance purchased the Mobile gas station in Logan, Iowa. On June 27, 1948, Dorrance married Arlene Fern Triplett at the Triplett Farm outside of Woodbine. Later on, Dorrance started his camper/RV business just down the street from the filling station. Dorrance worked hard for many years taking care of the residents of Logan and the surrounding communities.

Dorrance and Arlene were long time members of the RLDS Church, now the Community of Christ. They were members of the Logan congregation and later the Persia congregation. Dorrance was a member of the Abu Bekr Shriners out of Sioux City. He and Arlene always had a garden that they spent a lot of time on. They enjoyed traveling and when the kids were young, they would go on a vacation every year. Later, he and Arlene enjoyed traveling south each winter. On Saturday nights, they would watch The Lawrence Welk Show together.

Dorrance died on November 19, 2020, at his home in Logan at the age of 98 years and five months.

Dorrance is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Averdine Osland; and brother, Deyo Seeley. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Arlene Seeley of Logan; children, Cheryl and her husband Mike Smith of Omaha, Nebraska, Roger Seeley of Logan, Terry Seeley and his wife Sherry of Salt Lake City, Utah, Tana and her husband Don Kutz of Newport Beach, California and Dawn and her husband Keith Mathison of Woodbine; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
