Northfield—Diane Joy (McGinnis) Seeley, age 62 of Northfield, passed away Friday, November 23, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer, at Northfield Hospital Long Term Care Center, surrounded by her family. Diane was born on January 2, 1956, in St. Paul, to Joseph and Joyce (Bechtell) McGinnis. She was raised in White Bear Lake and graduated from White Bear Lake High School. She further continued her education at Century College, formerly Lakewood State Junior College, where she earned an Associate’s Degree. Diane worked as a food service manager for various school districts and dedicated her career to helping and guiding children and adolescents. Her kindness and generosity touched many hearts and changed many lives. In 2001,

Diane married Charlie Seeley and the couple made their home in Northfield. Diane enjoyed traveling, interior decorating, cooking, and baking. She was famous for her legendary Boston Cream Pie. Diane was a true horse lover. She got her first horse when she was 15 and since then, horses became her passion. She learned to be a horse trainer and participated in many horse shows. Diane will always be remembered for her strong character, brave soul, and gentle heart.

Diane is survived by her loving husband Charlie; her father Joseph; children Jennifer (Allen) Chalmers of Elko, MN, Chad (Michelle) Seeley of Northfield, Sarah (Benjamin Fedje) Costello-Fedge of Crystal, MN, Kelly (Luke Gordon) Costello of Northfield, and Jamie Seeley of Northfield; 14 grandchildren Zachary Chalmers, Caleb Chalmers, Michael Pientka, Mariah Swedin, Mason Swedin, Carter Seeley, Rowan Seeley, Devon Seeley, Alani Lundquist, Benjamin Fedje, River Fedje, Austin Gordon, Alex Gordon, and Olivia Gordon; sister Gail (Thomas) Frame of Marine on St. Croix, MN; brother Robert (Darla) McGinnis of West St. Paul; brother-in-law Mark Zempel; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother; her sister Carole Zempel; and her granddaughter Madison Swedin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 11 AM at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield, with Father Dennis Dempsey officiating. Visitation will be held at Bierman Funeral Home on Friday, December 7, 2018, from 5-8 PM and one hour prior to the funeral. The family prefers memorials to either of the following: The continuing care of Diane’s horse, Fancy, as Diane wished Fancy to be maintained for her granddaughters.
