David Bruce Seelye

David Bruce Seelye, 62, of Bena, MN, whose Indian name is“Manidoo Binese” which means “Spirit Bird” of the Turtle Clan, died Monday, February 2, 2015 at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7th, 2015 at the Bena Community Center in Bena, Minnesota. A wake will be held beginning Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Bena Community Center. Interment will be at Lakeview cemetery in Bena, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

He was born January 25th, 1953 in Cass Lake, MN, the son of Eugene and Luella (Matthews) Seelye. He was raised in Bena, MN. After graduating from Cass Lake High School, he entered the Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne. While in the service, he married Erica Bennett. They later divorced, and he returned to Bena. He then married Tammie Dunham-Davis. He began working for the tribe as a plumber, which led to him working with Leech Lake Heritage sites and he enjoyed doing archeology work. David loved hunting, fishing, ricing, trapping, and just being in the woods.
