Dorothy Conlon was born August 16, 1922, to Dr. Marcus Stuart Seely and Louise Berwick Seely in Dallas, Texas. She died on Sunday, July 9, 2006, at her home in Fredericksburg. Dorothy married James D. Conlon in Dallas, Texas, on January 17, 1942. They resided and raised their two daughters, Kathy and Kris, in Midlothian, Texas, prior to moving to Fredericksburg in 1977.Dorothy was a 1942 graduate of North Texas State University and received her Masters Degree from Texas Womens University in 1971. She taught Special Education in the Dallas Independent School District for 28 years. In addition to her teaching career, Dorothy donated her time and talents to a number of civic organizations. She was involved in the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce and the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League while residing in the Dallas area. She was also an active member of the Dallas Retired Teachers Association. After moving to Fredericksburg, she was an active member with the Gillespie County Historical Society, the Fredericksburg Volunteers in Police Support, the Fredericksburg Retired Teachers Association and the Community Needs Council. She also served as a driver for Meals on Wheels and participated as a volunteer for Night in Old Fredericksburg and Oktoberfest. Over the years, she received numerous awards for the many hours she contributed to community organizations. During her retirement, Dorothy was an avid traveler, enjoying trips throughout the United States and many foreign countries. She particularly enjoyed camping and attending RV rallies across the United States. Locally, she frequently traveled with the passport 55 group from Hill Country Memorial Hospital. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters and their families, Kathy and John Lewis of Fredericksburg and Kris and Ron Lackey of Midlothian, Texas, her beloved grandchildren, Dr. Josh Lackey of Muleshoe, Texas, and Elizabeth Kathleen Lackey Ramsdell and grandson-in-law Matthew Ramsdell of College Station, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Neal of Fort Worth, Texas, four nieces and nephews, and by her longtime special friend Sammy Frazier of Fredericksburg, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband James D. Conlon, her sister Phoebe Jane Felker of Alameda, California, and by her brother Marcus Stuart Buddy Seely who died as a child. Following Cremation, memorial services for family and friends will be scheduled at a later date in Fredericksburg and Dallas. Memorials honoring Dorothy may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, Hill Country Memorial Hospital, Gillespie County Historical Society or to the charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Kerrville Funeral Home.
