Edith Elizabeth “Betty” Snider

Edith Elizabeth “Betty” Snider, 90, of Cassville, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011, in Red Rose Health and Rehabilitation Center, Cassville.

She was born March 15, 1921, in Peapack, N.J., the daughter of Frank and Edith (Anderson) Seely. On Aug. 9, 1946, she was united in marriage to Chester B. Snider, who preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1991. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Norma Simpson and Doris Ray and two brothers, Frank and David Seely.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Farwell and her husband, Tom, of Green Castle, and Susan Goodsell and her husband, Larry, of Rogers, Ark.; one son, Chester J. Snider and his wife, Valerie, of Cassville; one sister, Ruth Henbest, of Cassville; one brother, John Seely and his wife, Betty, of Cassville; two half-brothers, William Welch and his wife, Jeannette, of Sacramento, Calif., and Frank Welch and his wife, Joella, of Salt Lake City, Utah; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren.

She grew up and received her education in New Jersey, where she graduated from high school. She received her medical training in Syracuse, N.Y. In 1945, she moved to Missouri in the Thomas Hollow area and after her marriage, she and her husband, Chester, resided and raised their family in the Cato community. For several years, she was employed at the State Chest Hospital in Mt. Vernon as a microbacteriologist until her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cassville.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Brad Brimmer conducted the services.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Convoy of Hope — Joplin Disaster in care of Fohn Funeral Home.
